What’s Your Jewelry Story?

Jewelry is so much more than adornment – ask any of your girlfriends about a piece she always wears.  You will hear emotional stories of attachment and memories.

Jewelry marks special occasions, the first piece of “real jewelry” your mother gave you for your 16th birthday, the “going steady” ring from your  first boyfriend, even the tattered “friendship bracelet” from your BFF!

I have a separate Jewelry Box that holds nothing but memories…love notes, special pieces, jewelry from past loves mixed with dried flowers from corsages and streamers from balloons…yep – I am that sappy!

My fondest memory?  the charm bracelet my parents gave me the day I went off to college.  A traditional open link chain with a heart (because they love me), a mortarboard (for graduation) and a butterfly (for new beginnings).

They started it for me but I have added to it with each new experience.  Let’s see, I have a Palm Tree from a trip to Hawaii, a computer to celebrate my first job offer, an engagement ring charm to celebrate the day my boyfriend proposed…do you have a Charm Bracelet?  Think about
starting a new tradition that your children can build on.

How many of you get a piece of jewelry on special occasions or buy a piece of jewelry on every vacation?  I have a girlfriend who buys a fabulous new piece on every cruise she takes (she’s a Travel Agent, let me tell you she has a collection)!

But the most emotional piece is the one that is passed down – I love the thought that memories come flooding back every time I look down at my Grand Mother’s Engagement Ring.

What are your Jewelry stories?  …and confess, you have a box of memories too!
